Softball roundup: Eastmont surprises top teams at 3A district

By the Herald staff

Eastmont came into Saturday's CBL 3A district softball tournament as the No. 4 seed, and left as a champion for the first time in the program's history.

The Wildcats survived a loser-out game with West Valley, knocked off regular-season champion Kamiakin for the second time this year in the semifinals, then beat Kennewick 7-1 in the championship game at Columbia Playfield.

The Braves rebounded to beat Southridge 10-0 in the seeding game, putting them in a loser-out game at next weekend's 3A Eastern Regionals in Spokane against the loser of Tuesday's Mount Spokane-North Central game.

The Lions (17-6), who needed 11 innings to get past Southridge 6-5 in the semifinals, face a loser-out game against the same Suns at regionals.

The top three teams at regionals qualify for state.
