Soccer roundup: Richland edges Eisenhower 2-1

Joe Pak assisted on goals by Nick Wood and Matt Hendricks as the Richland boys soccer team completed a Columbia Basin League 4A season sweep of Eisenhower on Saturday with a 2-1 win at Bomber Field in Richland.

"The last couple of games we've had, the confidence is telling us that we can do it," said Bombers coach Octavio DoValle. "We're learning more and more to play as a team. Sometimes it takes 10 weeks."

The Bombers, which beat the Cadets 3-2 in Yakima in April, climbed above the .500 mark (6-4) in the CBL for the first time this year and moved into a tie for second with Wenatchee and Davis.

Antonio Barrera scored twice on assists from Marco Acevedo -- who scored two goals of his own -- and Pasco beat Wenatchee to remain undefeated (9-0) in CBL 4A play.

YAKIMA -- Matt Smith scored twice to open and close a Hanford rout of West Valley in a CBL 3A matchup. Smith also assisted on goals scored by Austin Law and Dino Ramic for the Falcons win.

Eastmont 1, Southridge 0 (SO)

Javier Tovar put the finishing touches on Eastmont's 4-3 shootout win, scoring the Wildcats' final shootout goal, to knock Southridge out of the CBL 3A lead.

Brandon Hale recorded seven saves in regulation and overtime for the Suns, who fall into third place.

Luis Perez converted Sunnyside's first goal on a disputed penalty kick in the 11th minute and the Grizzlies held off Kamiakin for a key CBL 3A win.

"We'll see what our team is made of now. We need to gear up for the playoffs," said Braves coach Todd Borak. "Give credit to Sunnyside. They took advantage of opportunities. We had some opportunities but we missed them."
