All-Area football first-team defense roster, top coach

KENNEWICK -- Here are the first-team defensive members of the Tri-City Herald's All-Area Football squad:

Peter Girgis, DL, Sr., Richland: First-team All-CBBN Cascade selection demanded double-teams from opponents.

Austin Graves, DL, Jr., Southridge: First-team All-CBBN Columbia selection led Suns with 11 1/2 sacks, had 17 tackles for loss.

Jakob Scott, DL, Sr., Othello: CWAC Defensive MVP had 16 sacks, 15 tackles for loss, 16 pass breakups and five forced fumbles.

Dakota Tripp, DL, Sr., Kennewick: First-team All-CBBN Columbia selection had 58 tackles, 23 for loss, along with 7 1/2 sacks.

Jacob Ellsworth, LB, Sr., Pasco: First-team All-CBBN Columbia selection was a big reason Bulldogs were No. 2 in defense (216 ypg).

Angel Ledezma, LB, Sr., Royal: First-team All-SCAC East selection led Knights with 83 tackles, 7 for loss, along with 6 sacks.

Taylor Powell, LB, Sr., Southridge: CBBN Columbia Defensive MVP led Suns with 104 tackles, 21 for loss, along with 5 sacks.

Kody Winsor, LB, Sr., Hanford: CBBN Cascade Defensive MVP led team with 124 tackles, 13 for loss, 7 sacks, 6 forced fumbles.

Kirby Moore, DB, Sr., Prosser: MVP First-team All-CWAC selection had 23 tackles, 4 pass breakups, 2 interceptions.

Jamison Rowe, DB, Sr., Richland: First-team All-CBBN Cascade selection had 3 interceptions for division's top defense (234.1 ypg).

Kyle Wagar, DB, Sr., Hanford: First-team All-CBBN Cascade selection had 85 tackles, 3 interceptions at cornerback.

Miquiyah Zamora: DB, Fr., Pasco: First-team All-CBBN Columbia selection was a lockdown cornerback who belied his age on the field.

Coach of the year

Tom Moore, Prosser: His 23rd season with the Mustangs nearly finished with back-to-back 2A state championships.
