Bombers sweep all-state baseball honors

Richland's father-son duo of Ben and Brett Jacobs received one final set of accolades from the Bombers' run to the 4A state baseball title last month.

Ben was named 4A coach of the year and Brett, a shortstop who will play for WSU next spring, was voted 4A player of the year in all-state voting by statewide media and coordinated by the Herald's Rene Ferran.

"It's a great finish for all we've done at Richland, the whole team and myself," said Brett, who hit .417 with five homers, 33 RBIs, nine doubles and 11 stolen bases this season. "It's a great way to go out."

Jacobs finished his career tying the school record for home runs (24) and RBIs (117).

One other area player was named MVP of his classification -- Touchet catcher Marshall Byerley (1B).
