KENNEWICK -- The state championships have been decided, but that doesn't mean the high school baseball season has been put to bed.
The All-State Series feeder games for 3A and 4A schools in Region 5 is set for Wednesday in Kennewick at Southridge High School.
The contests, which traditionally have been held in Yakima, are about the closest thing there is to a Mid-Columbia All-Star Game.
The top seniors from the Tri-Cities and Yakima will vie for 10 coveted spots up for nomination to the All-State Series, June 13 and 14 at Parker Field in Yakima.
Two eight-inning games will be played -- first pitch is slated for 3 p.m. -- with the 18 players on each team splitting time.
Richland, fresh of its 4A state championship, will combine with Hanford and Kamiakin (and one West Valley player) to create one team, while Southridge, Pasco, West Valley, Kennewick, Davis and Eisenhower will comprise the other.
The Bombers' eight players and Suns' seven are the most, though Hanford and West Valley each have five.
Included in the roster are at least eight players who have signed with four-year colleges. There are three CBBN MVPs -- Cascade co-MVPs Brett Jacobs of Richland and Corey Urquhart of West Valley and Columbia MVP Tyler Roberts of Southridge -- plus two pitchers of the year in Richland's Stinson Ott and Kennewick's Tony Bryant.
Nomination to the All-State Series will be based on play in the feeder games as well as career achievement. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students.
