The Mid-Columbia Athletes of the Week for September 25, 2008.

Swimming

Kristen Bennett, Soph., Hanford

She won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:04.97 and qualified for state in the 500 free in 5:20.98 at a four-team CBBN meet.

Volleyball

Mary Shae Hays, Jr., Hermiston

She had 41 kills and 15 blocks in seven matches -- wins over Madras and La Grande and a third-place finish at the Wilsonville tourney.

Football

Hayden Hilty, Jr., Richland

He was 12-of-18 passing for 167 yards and three touchdowns in leading the Bombers past West Valley in a CBBN Cascade game.

Cross Country

Jose Marcial, Sr., Kiona-Benton

He won the second flight of the Apple Ridge Run in Cowiche, finishing the 3-mile course in 16:02.

Soccer

Helen Petersen, Fr., Prosser

She totaled 13 goals and 3 assists in wins over Grandview, Kennewick and Wapato, scoring six goals against both the 'Hounds and Lions.
