Kennewick Man scientist joins Seattle engineering firm

James Chatters, the paleoscientist who performed the first studies on Kennewick Man after students found the bones in 1996 on the Columbia River bank, has joined international engineering company AMEC in Seattle.

Chatters has worked with cultural resources for more than 35 years and will use his knowledge on projects like the salvage of Pleistocene mammal fossils from the Fairmead Landfill site in Central California, as well as upcoming excavations in Central Idaho and a large-scale archaeological survey for a proposed resort in Central Oregon.

"Jim is a nationally renowned expert and has partnered with us for decades on projects throughout the West," said Sue Sander, an AMEC principal in a news release.
