'The Maltese Falcon' next week at Fairchild

Fairchild Cinemas is going to do two showings of the Humphrey Bogart classic The Maltese Falcon next week at 7 p.m. on the Oct. 27 and the 29.

Both are free on a first-come, first-serve basis. It is the finale of the Mid-Columbia Libraries' "The Big Read," a program designed to get people to read. They focused on Dashiell Hammett’s classic book and as a treat, Fairchild Cinemas is going to let those participating in the program — and even those that didn’t — see the film.

The Maltese Falcon, written and directed by the legend John Huston (Angelica’s dad) is the granddaddy and best of all private detective flicks.

Mr. Movie rating: 5 stars

Not rated, probably PG-13. It plays Tuesday, Oct. 27 and Thursday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. at Fairchild Cinemas.

5 stars to 4 1/2 stars: Must see on the big screen
4 stars to 3 1/2 stars: Good film, see it if it's your type of movie.
3 stars to 2 1/2 stars: Wait until it comes out on video.
2 stars to 1 star: Don't bother.
0 stars: Speaks for itself.
