Do you care about the new 'Star Trek'?

Just plain Star Trek.

No fancy, schmancy numerals or colon with a chapter title following the title. It’s complete vanilla. Basic.

Though I have seen Star Trek, I cannot post a review until Thursday because it won’t be in theaters until then and that’s the agreement we make with the studios for the privilege of being able to screen movies in advance.

I’m a big fan of the original series and an even bigger fan of The Next Generation.

The Star Trek movies Nos. 2 and 4 — the whales flick — are the best of the bunch. The Next Generation TV show rocked, but the films left a bit to be desired.

When it was announced that J.J. Abrams was doing one, it had me doing some head-scratching. Why bother? The franchise died with Enterprise and no one cares.

It appears that I am wrong. Geez, I hate to admit that. People everywhere keep talking to me about Star Trek. While I don’t care if the franchise is pushed forward again, you might.

If you’re a fan, I want to know how you feel about J.J. Abrams and the producers recasting the original characters. And how you feel about the soon to be released movie. Are you excited? Bored? What?
