Recap: Seattle vs. Texas

Vicente Padilla was virtually untouchable through seven innings, as the Texas Rangers edged the Seattle Mariners, 2-0, in a pitcher's duel from Safeco Field.

Padilla (5-2) gave up just two hits, two walks and struck out eight batters for the Rangers, who have won six of their last eight contests. Padilla has given up one earned run or less in each of his last three starts. C.J. Wilson earned his eighth save of the year as he pitched the ninth and gave up just a walk.

"He was excellent, mixed his off-speed pretty good, kept them off balance," Texas manager Ron Washington. "He was good."

Milton Bradley went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and also scored twice. Brandon Boggs hit an RBI triple and Ian Kinsler ended with two hits.

Ichiro Suzuki and Yuniesky Betancourt had the only hits for Seattle, which has lost 7-of-8, 11-of-16 and scored just one run in its last 23 innings.

Erik Bedard (2-2) was dealt the loss after he was touched for two runs on six hits in seven frames on the hill.

"Erik pitched a really nice game," Seattle manager John McLaren said. "He was on top of his game. We didn't have much run support, but he threw the ball extremely well."

Michael Young left Wednesday's game against the Seattle Mariners with an injury to his left hip flexor. Young flied out to right field in the top of the first, and apparently sustained the injury running out of the batter's box. He didn't take the field in the bottom of the frame, and Ramon Vazquez was called on to take over the helm at shortstop for Texas.

The Rangers got on the board first, as Bradley cracked a single in the top of the fourth inning. Murphy flied out, but Boggs stroked an RBI triple to put Texas up 1-0.

Bradley added a solo shot in the sixth for a 2-0 Rangers cushion.

Seattle started a rally in the seventh, as Raul Ibanez and Adrian Beltre both drew walks to start the frame. Padilla appeared unphased as he struck out Jeff Clement, Betancourt and Wladimir Balentien to end the threat.

Wilson came on in the ninth for Texas and retired Ibanez but walked Beltre. Pinch-hitter Willie Bloomquist was then caught looking at the third strike for the second out and Betancourt flied out to Josh Hamilton to end the game.
