Kennewick's Tucker wins Pac-10 golf award

From Herald news services

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- Washington State's Kevin Tucker has been named the Pac-10 golfer of the month.

The junior from Kennewick posted his first collegiate tournament victory by winning the Desert Intercollegiate in Palm Desert, Calif., finishing 3-under par and the only player in the field to finish without a round over par.

-- Zach Bixler, a former Richland standout, recently advanced out of the first stage of PGA Tour qualifying, finishing in a tie for seventh out of 82 golfers at San Juan Oaks Golf Club in Hollister, Calif.

Bixler shot 11-under over four rounds to grab one of 24 spots available for the second stage, which he will contest at Lantana (Texas) Golf Club from Nov. 19-22.
