The Tri-Cities Fever hired Richard Davis, an arenafootball2 coaching veteran, as its new coach.
A formal announcement is expected today.
Davis, 45, compiled a 46-34 record in six seasons in the af2, most recently in Stockton in 2006 where he went 5-11.
Davis, who was not one of the finalists announced by Fever general manager Randy Schillinger a couple of weeks ago, was late in applying for the job and became the No. 1 choice this past week after some long phone conversations with Schillinger and members of the Fever's ownership group.
Davis takes over for Cedric Walker, who was fired after the Fever finished 4-12 and last in the West Division standings this past season.
He will be the third coach in three seasons for the Fever since joining the af2. During that time, the Fever has just a 12-21 record.
