Dust Devils vault to top of East

BOISE - The Tri-City Dust Devils scored three times in the ninth inning Saturday night to beat the Boise Hawks 7-4 at Memorial Stadium.

The win puts Tri-Cities in a tie for first place with the Hawks and Spokane - all are 10-15 - in the East Division.

A week ago, Tri-Cities was in last place, four games out of first. But a three-game sweep of Spokane and the win over the Hawks vaulted the Devils to the top of the standings.

Josh Donaldson and Jonathan Wyatt both had clutch hits in the game for Boise, twice tying the score.

The Dust Devils went up 4-2 in the eighth inning, but Wyatt's two-run single in the bottom of the inning tied the game. The Dust Devils put the game away in the ninth with three runs, and Riquy Pena shut the Hawks down in the bottom half of the inning to secure the victory.

Everth Cabrera gave the Dust Devils the lead for good when he doubled to right field, scoring Brandon Reichert. Cabrera scored on a single by Lars Davis, and Davis finished things off by scoring on a Kevin Clark single.

The three-game series continues at 5:15 p.m. today, as the Hawks send Dustin Sasser to the mound against the Dust Devils' Sheng-An Kuo.
