By the Herald staff

BOISE -- Kent Matthes lined a two-out RBI double in the top of the ninth inning, breaking a 5-all tie as Tri-City completed a season-opening sweep at Memorial Stadium.

The Dust Devils trailed 5-1 after five innings before chipping away. Nova-hot Scott Beerer hit a two-run single in the eighth to tie the score.

In the ninth, Joey Wong led off with a single, moved to second on a balk and third on a wild pitch. Two outs later, Matthes lined a 3-2 pitch to left.

Beerer capped a monster series, going 4-for-5 game with four RBIs. He finshed the series 11-for-14 (.786) with eight RBI.

Craig Bennigson retired all nine men he faced in relief to pick up the win for Tri-City.
