Roundup: 3 Mid-Columbians win indoor track titles

A number of Mid-Columbia athletes had outstanding performances Monday at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference indoor track championships at Nampa, Idaho.

Seattle Pacific's Teona Golding, the former Kennewick High star Teona Perkins, finished first in the women's high jump (5 feet, 5 1/4 inches), ran a leg on the winning 4x400 relay (3:57.6 for a meet and conference record), and finished second in the women's 400 meters (58.22 seconds).

Hermiston grad Greg Hamm, competing for host Northwest Nazarene, won the men's triple jump with a leap of 47 feet, 5 1/4 inches. Hamm also ran a leg on the winning 4x400 relay team (3:23.22).

Hanford grad Keefe Brockman, competing for Western Washington, won the men's high jump event with a leap of 6-43/4. He also placed third in the men's triple jump at 45-4 1/4.

Baseball

CWU splits pair: Kennewick High grad Sean Sloppy drove in a run to help Central Washington defeated Dixie State 5-4 on Sunday to salvage a doubleheader split. Central lost the opener 4-1.

LC State off to 6-2 start: Kamiakin grad Paul Martin is Lewis-Clark State's top hitter so far this season, batting .533 (8 for 15) as the Warriors are 6-2. Fellow Kamiakin grad Ryan Anderson is hitting .313 (5 for 16).

Golf

Bixler places 23rd: Richland High grad Zach Bixler fired a three-round score of 6-over 222 to place 23rd at the GADO North Texas Classic in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico.

Bixler's team, the University of Washington men, placed ninth in the standings.
